Fire Element Meaning in the Five Elements (Wu Xing)

In the Hong Fan chapter of the Book of Documents, 火曰炎上 — Fire is that which flames upward. The image is heat that cannot help being visible: it rises, lights what is near it, and draws the eye.

Fire's traditional correspondences are summer, the south, the color red, and the peak of a cycle — the phase where things are most visible and most spent.

When Fire leads a chart, the recognizable pattern is warmth that moves toward people: quick to care, generous without counting, often the one who fills a quiet room.
